Tokay is a Swiss-Turkish director and animator based in Switzerland. He grew up in the city of Bern, where he started experimenting with in camera stop motion animation at a very young age. During his later schooldays he explored and documented the local nightlife and underground scene using old MiniDV cameras and played visuals at multiple events. At that time he also created various short films and music videos in the Swiss Alps with simple means. Thanks to his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker, he specialized mainly in crafting and stop motion animation. Next to his studies, Tokay co-directed and animated various ident's and shortfilms for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim.
In his work, connecting image and sound, his main focus lies in the interaction between light and perception. He likes to limit himself to basic materials and simple workflows and he tries to push the boundaries to create visual illusions working with texture, materiality, light and perspective.
Currently he is doing the MA in Animation at Lucerne School of Art and Design and working on different film and design projects.
